This painting is an exploration of emotions, silence, and the passage of time. I wanted to capture a moment in which the subject exists entirely in her own world, connected to the music of her inner life.
Her posture is intentionally restrained, almost stoic, creating tension in contrast to the way her fingers rest delicately on the strings of the lute.
She is contemplating whether to play another note or let the silence linger. This ambiguity is a central element of the piece, reflecting my own questions about the spaces between silence and sound, inaction and action.
The oval frame alludes to classical portraiture while serving to focus the viewer’s attention on the subject’s emotional world. It is a window into a private moment, a quiet sanctuary that invites others to project their own emotions onto her stillness.
For me, this painting was an exercise in patience and observation—not only of the subject but of myself as well. Every brushstroke was a kind of meditation on vulnerability, beauty, and the stories we carry within us. It is both a reflection of my inner world and an offering to the viewer, inviting them to pause for a moment and listen to their own silence.
